Conde Nast Says Greece is the Best Vacation Spot in the World!

Conde Nast Says Greece is the Best Vacation Spot in the World!

If you needed one more reason to Sail in Greece next summer, how about the fact that Conde Nast picked Greece as the number one travel destination in the world!

Conde Nast readers gave the best scores to Greece across the board in the 2016 Readers’ Travel Awards, and with good reason. For its relatively small size, Greece contains some of the most diverse beauty and landscapes anywhere on Earth. Besides it’s ancient ruins and mountains, it has over 200 islands, each with its own unique vibe and atmosphere.

With our cruises, we try to give you a taste of every side of Greece, sailing from party central Mykonos to the stunning beaches of Paros, and on to the volcanic landscapes and amazing sunsets of Santorini. No matter what you like or what your style is, we guarantee you will fall in love with at least one, or most likely all, of these islands – as the readers of Conde Nast did!

There’s no better way to experience the Greek islands than on a classic sailboat, with a friendly Greek captain guiding the way. Greeks have been sailing on these seas for millennia, and almost everyone gets around the islands by boat or ship. With a cruise like this, you can travel closer to the way locals do while meeting Greeks and travelers from around the world on the way – having fun and forging connections on the waters of the deep blue Aegean Sea.

So if you haven’t been to Greece and want to see what Conde Nast readers are excited about, check out one of our cruises next summer. Even if you have been to Greece, we know you can’t wait to return, so kick back and relax while we take you to some of the best islands in the number one travel destination in the world!

Authentic food on the Greek islands!

Authentic food on the Greek islands!

You can’t enjoy a Greek summer vacation without tasting all the amazing flavors you can find on the beautiful Aegean islands!

The islands of Paros, Ios, Mykonos, and Santorini, which those on board the Sail in Greece Cruises get to discover and experience for themselves, have a cuisine based on simple, fresh flavors and ingredients, involving plenty of fruits, vegetables, local herbs and spices, seafood, and a generous helping of olive oil.

So when you visit the sun-drenched shores of these Cycladic islands, for which dishes should you be on the lookout?

In the lovely tavernas of Paros and Ios, keep an eye out for sundried fish, chickpea soups, and a local specialty – snails seasoned with garlic dip.  These islands are known for the particularly full flavor of these local dishes, which manage to be delicious, healthy, and inexpensive all at once. Ios is also known throughout Greece for its dairy products, particularly its variety of cheeses. Try the local “Xinotiri”, and then taste the assortment of hard and soft cheeses the island produces.

When you get to Mykonos, take a dinner break after dipping in the island’s crystal clear waters and before visiting the island’s pumping nightlife to taste local delicacies like kopanisti and looza.  Kopanisti is a salty, spicy cheese sauce with pepper, and looza is air-dried, herb-flavored ham similar to prosciutto (but even better in taste)! Finish off your Mykonos meal with the islands amygdalota sweets, made with almonds and sugar, before heading off to discover perhaps the most peculiar and unique dishes of all in volcanic Santorini.

Feast on tomato balls, fava beans with roasted onions, and eggplants with lamb on a cliff side taverna while taking in one of Santorini’s famous sunsets. It will be the perfect end to a tasty culinary tour of the small but colorful Aegean islands.

5 Reasons Greece is the New Yacht Party Capital

5 Reasons Greece is the New Yacht Party Capital

In the past few years, travelers have been flocking to the Balkans to take cruises exploring the stunning Mediterranean coastline while partying on board with their friends!

If you haven’t taken a yacht party trip yet, it’s about time you start planning one. As for the country you should pick for your yacht party destination?

Greece! It’s a no-brainer, and here’s why.

1) Greece has a HUGE amount of islands to explore

Greece has 227 inhabited islands, each more beautiful and welcoming than the last. Plenty of the islands are equally well known for their crystal clear waters as they are for their all-night partying, so what are you waiting for? You won’t find such a huge number of island destinations anywhere else in the Mediterranean except Greece.

2) Greece already has some of the best nightlife in the world

How many places in the world are home to bars that frequently stay open until 6 or 7 AM in the summer months, and clubs that keep going well past when the sun comes up? This isn’t just the case on the party island of Mykonos – you will find plenty of islands in Greece with beach bars serving up drinks all day and clubs playing music all night.

3) Greece has incredible beaches and waters

When you’re warming up from the hot summer sun and want to cool down, just take the plunge into the beautiful Greek water! The refreshing Aegean and Ionian seas are cool, blue, and clear – just what you want in a summer swim. You can often see all the way down, even at a depth of 30 meters, so there’s no reason to fear the deep here!

4) Greece is known for its hospitality

In order to have an unforgettable experience on a yacht, you want to feel a great warm welcome when you board. Greece is world-renowned for its amazing hospitality – everyone from the captain on board to the bartenders and locals in the ports you visit will help show you a good time and live the local island life.

5) Greeks know all about having a great time (kaloperasi)

Few people enjoy daily life like the Greeks. Whether they’re catching up with friends for hours in cafes (kafeteries), eating a big meal with family at a local taverna, or dancing all night until dawn (ximeromata), they do everything with enthusiasm while surrounded by friends and family. So come party in Greece and catch the local vibe!

Explore the Greek islands on board our Mykonos or Harmony Cruises and  party like never before!

Take a trip of a lifetime aboard a Greek Goddess with Sail in Greece this year… sun, sea and a super luxurious yacht, all on a budget! What more can you ask for?

For those of you who know your Greek mythology, you’ll know that Hemera was the ancient Greek primordial goddess (protogenos) of the day. Sail in Greece have just acquired their own piece of heaven in the ‘eye-catching’ form of a 30 metre long motor sailor yacht. They have justly christened her as HEMERA.

Hemera boasts a spacious sun deck – perfect for soaking in the rays, a wide interior lounge room made cosy with cushions galore, a sumptuous dining area and an inviting bar. Once you’ve topped up your tan, move inside to mingle with other group members, play fun games or read a book from their library. With a private bar also at your disposal, these gatherings can often get quite merry as the day goes on…

The English speaking crew are there to meet your needs and ensure you all have a fabulous time. A typical example of one of their Greek captain’s is Bill ( aka “Captain Nemo”), who has spent his whole life sailing in Greece. He’s bound to have many a good story to share! And, for those of you who like to keep connected, there’s no need to feel isolated at sea… HERA offers 3G WiFi on board too.

All aboard…

We’re feeling very impressed by this goddess of a yacht, which operates exclusively on the Sail in Greece YOLO cruises, and is also available for private hire if you’ve a group who’d like a tailor-made cruise in the Greek islands. All Cabins are ensuite with a/c , double, triple and a few quads ( comfort at its finest!) Prices are affordable too and you can be sure this will be money well spent. Whatever you choose, HEMERA will float you directly into the docks of Heaven, offering up an experience of a life-time, as well as a glorious suntan any Greek God would be proud of!

4 Best Party Beaches in the Greek Islands

4 Best Party Beaches in the Greek Islands

Summer in Greece is pretty much a party no matter where you go. However, there are some Greek island beaches that outdo themselves when it comes to drinks and dancing all night long, and even luckier for you, many of those beaches happen to be on the islands we visit with Sail in Greece Adventures!

Sure, you can just hit the bars and clubs in town if you want, but if you really want to party like a Greek this summer, you have to check out some of these beach bars and clubs! Below are the top 4 party beaches you will find along the way on Sail in Greece’s journey.

Far Out Beach Club, Mylopotas, Ios

Right next to the water and with a beautiful swimming pool in the club itself, Far Out Beach Club practically screams summer. The party here always goes until dawn, and it doesn’t even get going until around midnight, so if you’re going to party here, you better get ready for a long night!

Nammos, Psarou Beach, Mykonos

This party beach is famous to both Greeks and tourists, as it brings some of the best DJs in the world to play tunes all night long. The restaurant and club is located right on the beach, so you can start with dinner and then join the dancers on the sand as the night wears on. Drinks may be a little pricier than on the rest of the island beaches, but the fun atmosphere is worth it!

Pounda Beach Bar, Pounda Beach, Paros

Pounda Beach Bar is meant only for travelers who can handle a good amount of crowds and noise. The party here starts at noon and keeps going throughout the day, as the beach bar operates during sunlight hours as well. Since this club is a tourist favorite, you will meet people from all over the world at Pounda Beach Bar.

Cavo Paradiso, Paradise Beach, Mykonos

This club is meant for house music aficionados and intense partiers only. On the crazy party island of Mykonos, Cavo Paradiso is usually the place where people end their night, because the party here keeps going until well after the sun comes up. Cavo Paradiso is a must stop destination for any house DJ worth his salt, which is why names as famous as Tiesto, Laidback Luke, Axwell, Erick Prydz, Benny Benassi, and Alesso, just to name a few, have all played sets here.
